HEALING TRAUMA THROUGH THE WISDOM OF THE BODY

UNWIND THE PAST. RESTORE YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM

Somatic Experiencing is a gentle, body-based approach to healing trauma and restoring nervous system balance.

It helps you return to a sense of safety, aliveness, and deep connection with yourself.

Instead of re-telling traumatic stories, SE focuses on tracking sensations, impulses, and micro-movements in the body — allowing stuck survival energy (like fight, flight, or freeze) to complete and discharge naturally.

What Happens in a Session?

  • Session begins with conversation and setting the intention

  • You remain fully clothed and seated

  • You will learn how to connect with inner or external resources

  • I guide you to notice sensations, emotions, images, or impulses

  • We give space for subtle movements, tremors, or emotional waves to arise—and the body to complete stuck fight, flight, or freeze responses

  • The process is slow, attuned, and led by your body and nervous system

  • You are always in control — we go only where there’s safety

Dr. Peter Levine

“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence.”

Interesting Facts About Somatic Experiencing:

1. Inspired by Animals in the Wild

Peter Levine observed that wild animals constantly face life-threatening situations, yet rarely develop trauma. Why? Animals instinctively shake, tremble, or run to discharge survival energy. Humans, however, often suppress these instincts, leading to trapped trauma in the nervous system.

2. Trauma Is Not the Event — It’s the Nervous System's Response

Levine emphasizes that trauma isn’t defined by what happened, but by how overwhelmed the nervous system became during and after the event.

3. You Don’t Need to Re-live the Trauma to Heal

Unlike traditional talk therapies, SE does not require detailed retelling of traumatic events. In fact, it gently works around the edges of overwhelm, helping the body feel safe, stable, and empowered before going deeper.

4. The Healing Happens in “Titration”

SE uses a principle called titration — addressing trauma in tiny, manageable doses, so the body doesn’t get overwhelmed again. It’s a slow, respectful dance with the nervous system.

5. Pendulation Creates Balance

Another core SE concept is pendulation — the natural rhythm of moving between activation and calm. This helps the nervous system regain resilience and flexibility.

6. the body leads the way to healing

In SE, subtle shifts — a sigh, a small movement, a sense of warmth — are not minor; they are breakthroughs. The body often "speaks" before the mind even understands.

7. SE Has Helped in War Zones and Disaster Areas

Somatic Experiencing has been used worldwide to help people recover from earthquakes, tsunamis, refugee crises, and war trauma. Its non-verbal, body-based approach makes it accessible across cultures.
